Patterned shoes with coloured laces/ with tie-dye-effect laces

Who said you can’t draw on your shoes? Choose a pattern you like, a colour for your laces, and give a simple pair of shoes a look that’s all about you!

Supplies

• Light-coloured canvas shoes, lined
• Permanent markers of various colours (e.g. Sharpie)
• Rubbing alcohol
• Plate or container
• Cotton swab or pipette (optional)

Step 1

Remove the laces from the shoes. Select a marker and draw bands of colour at equal distances from one another along the entire length of the laces.

Working over a plate or container to avoid spills (pay attention, since alcohol can damage some surfaces), pour a few drops of rubbing alcohol on each of the coloured bands. Use a cotton swab moistened with alcohol or a pipette to dilute the colour with greater precision. Let dry for about an hour.

Use the markers to draw patterns on the shoes.

Thread the laces back onto the shoes, and you’re done!

Note: Make sure the shoes are lined and avoid placing them in prolonged contact with water.
